Haggen Bakeries now using local flour

Haggen Bakeries will now exclusively use local flour from a cooperative of Northwest wheat growers for its store-made baked goods, the company announced.

The cooperative, Shepherd’s Grain, will supply flour to all Haggen Northwest Fresh and TOP Food & Drug stores. The retailer plans to use the Shepherd’s Grain logo on packaged baked goods and provide information on the cooperative in stores. “Shepherd’s Grain is complete alignment with our core values of local and sustainable,” Clement Stevens, co-president and senior vice president of merchandising at Haggen, said in a press release. “By partnering with them, not only are we offering our customers baked goods made with premium flour, but we are also supporting local Washington wheat farmers and their sustainable farming practices. It’s a winning combination for everyone.”

Shepherd’s Grain consists of 43 regional farms committed to no-till farming, a practice that improves soil quality while reducing erosion and fuel consumption.
